2026 WCQ: We were delayed, lost hours – Zimbabwe coach, Nees ahead of Nigeria clash

Zimbabwe’s head coach, Michael Nees, has shared that his team faced travel issues before their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Nigeria. The team lost a few hours due to a flight cancellation.

The match will take place at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Tuesday evening. Zimbabwe arrived in Nigeria on Saturday afternoon after a 2-2 draw with Benin Republic. Meanwhile, Nigeria comes into the game after a 2-0 win against Rwanda in Kigali.

Despite the travel delay, Zimbabwe managed to have their first training session in Uyo on Sunday. Speaking to the team’s media, Nees confirmed that they have now settled in.

“The hotel is fine, and we have settled in,” Nees said. “We were delayed because our flight was cancelled, so we lost a couple of hours.”

Zimbabwe will now focus on their preparations for the crucial match against Nigeria.
