2026 WCQ: We want to beat Zimbabwe – Super Eagles captain Troost-Ekong

The Super Eagles are fully prepared for their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match against Zimbabwe. The game will take place on Tuesday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.

Nigeria recently secured a 2-0 win against Rwanda, boosting their chances in the qualifiers. However, captain William Troost-Ekong says the team is not dwelling on that victory. Instead, they are focused on beating Zimbabwe.

Speaking at a press conference, Troost-Ekong emphasized that the team is ready for the match.

The win against Rwanda is behind us. Now, we are fully focused on Zimbabwe. They are a strong team, but we are prepared to give our best and win,” he said.

He also mentioned that the players understand how important it is to qualify for the World Cup.

We have talented and ambitious players. We know what it means to play at the World Cup, and we are determined to qualify,” he added.

This match will be the second for head coach Eric Chelle, who took charge in the game against Rwanda. Troost-Ekong said the players are adjusting to the coach’s tactics and are confident in their abilities.

We are getting used to the coach’s style. We have enough quality in the squad, and our performance against Rwanda showed that. Now, we need to step up again against Zimbabwe,” he said.

The Super Eagles will look to continue their winning form and strengthen their position in the World Cup qualifiers. Fans are eagerly waiting to see another strong performance from the team.
