US President Donald Trump has announced that the United States will soon sign a minerals and natural resources deal with Ukraine. He made this statement at a White House event on March 20 after signing an order to boost US production of critical minerals.
This deal is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Ukraine’s economy and help the country repay the US for its military and financial support. The agreement will focus on developing Ukraine’s critical minerals, which are important for industries like electronics, defense, and energy.
Trump also gave an update on his discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. He said his efforts to bring peace to Ukraine were making progress.
While he wanted to secure a full 30-day ceasefire, the talks led to a partial agreement. Putin agreed to pause attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure for 30 days, and Zelenskyy also accepted this temporary halt.
Despite this progress, negotiations between the US and Ukraine hit a rough patch last month. A tense meeting between Trump and Zelenskyy at the White House led to a temporary suspension of US military aid and intelligence support for Kyiv.
However, the two leaders had a productive phone call on Wednesday, where they agreed to work together to end the war. The White House described the call as “fantastic,” signaling a positive step forward in US-Ukraine relations.
With the minerals deal expected to be finalized soon, both countries are moving toward a stronger economic and strategic partnership.
