Nnamdi Kanu tenders apology over misconduct in open court

Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the banned Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has apologized to the Federal High Court, Justice Binta Nyako, and prosecutor Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN, for his behavior during his last trial session.

Kanu made a heartfelt plea for forgiveness and promised to behave properly for the rest of his trial. His apology was delivered through a statement read by his lead lawyer, Mr. Kanu Agabi, a former Attorney General of the Federation.

In the statement, Kanu admitted that he had spoken out of anger, unfairly attacking the court, the judge, the prosecutor, and even his own legal team. He acknowledged that while he had reasons to be upset, he should not have reacted the way he did.

“I sincerely apologize to Justice Binta Nyako; she did not deserve my harsh words. I also apologize to Chief Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN, who deserves the utmost respect,” the statement read.

Kanu’s lawyer also emphasized that his client is not perfect but is fighting for the Igbo people. He urged everyone to seek peace and understanding rather than conflict.

In response, Awomolo, SAN, accepted Kanu’s apology, stating that he is a prosecutor, not a persecutor, and that his goal is to ensure a fair and quick resolution of the case.
