The Nigerian Senate has approved President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State. This decision follows a similar approval from the House of Representatives.
With this approval, President Tinubu now has the authority to take emergency actions in the state. However, the situation must be reviewed regularly, with a mandatory review within six months.
To ensure proper management, the National Assembly has set up a joint committee from both chambers to oversee affairs in Rivers State during this period.
Additionally, the Senate has decided to create a mediation committee. This committee will include respected Nigerians who will work towards resolving the state’s political crisis.
