Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe has made it clear that he is not trying to take the place of football legends Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. He believes both players are unique and cannot be replaced.
Mbappe, who joined Real Madrid last summer, has been in top form. He has already scored 30 goals in 43 matches during his first season with the club. If he scores just two more goals, he will surpass Ronaldo’s debut-season record of 33 goals. That record is also shared by former Dutch star Ruud van Nistelrooy.
Despite these achievements, the French forward insists he is not aiming to fill Messi or Ronaldo’s shoes. While speaking to the press during international duty with France, Mbappe said:
“I’m not trying to take their place. They are irreplaceable.”
Even after reaching 30 goals this season, the 26-year-old remained humble. He acknowledged Messi and Ronaldo’s greatness, saying:
“They are legends who have defined an era. Numbers are important, but if I score more goals than them, it doesn’t mean I am better. It just means my first season is going well.”
Messi has scored over 850 career goals, while Ronaldo leads the all-time charts with more than 920 goals. These numbers prove why both players are considered football icons.
Mbappe is undoubtedly a rising star, but he knows that Messi and Ronaldo’s legacy is unmatched.
