Former Bayern Munich youth footballer, Guo Jiaxuan d!es on eve of 19th birthday after head injury in Spain

Guo Jiaxuan, a talented young footballer who once trained with Bayern Munich, has tragically passed away at the age of 18. He suffered a severe head injury during a training session in Spain last month. His passing came just before his 19th birthday, leaving the football world in mourning.

Guo was taking part in a training match against Spanish club RC Alcobendas in February. During the game, he was accidentally hit in the face by a knee, leading to a serious brain injury called a subarachnoid hemorrhage. This condition causes bleeding in the brain and can be life-threatening.

Doctors in Madrid later declared him ‘brain dead,’ and despite all efforts, he could not recover.

His club, Beijing Guoan, shared a heartfelt message:

“We have lost a child who loved football. May Jiaxuan rest in peace!”

Bayern Munich also paid their respects, remembering him as a part of their 2023 World Squad, a special program designed to develop young players from around the world.

Guo’s father refused to turn off his life support in Spain, hoping for a chance to bring him back to China for further treatment. However, after being transported home, Guo tragically passed away.

Reports suggest that Guo’s family faced financial difficulties, as the Beijing Football Association allegedly did not insure the trip. His family claimed that the association and Beijing Guoan failed to cover his medical expenses.

Guo Jiaxuan had been a promising young footballer. He had played for China’s U-17 national team and had the opportunity to train with Bayern Munich in 2023. His journey was just beginning, but his life was tragically cut short.

His passing is a heartbreaking loss for his family, friends, and the football community.
