Abuja explosion: Police confirm many dead, 14 vehicles burnt, as victims fill hospitals

A tragic accident happened in Abuja on Wednesday evening near Nyanya Bridge, leaving many people dead and several others injured.

According to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police, the accident occurred when a Dangote trailer, loaded with cement, lost control while approaching Nyanya Bridge from AYA. The trailer crashed into several stationary vehicles that were stuck in traffic.

The impact caused a huge fire, engulfing 14 vehicles. People at the scene panicked, with bystanders and motorists running for safety. Emergency responders arrived quickly to rescue those trapped in the burning cars.

Casualties and Damage

Eyewitnesses reported that more than 10 people died in the accident. However, police confirmed that six victims were pulled from the wreckage and taken to the hospital, where they were sadly confirmed dead. Their bodies have been moved to the Karu General Hospital Morgue.

Meanwhile, many injured victims were rushed to hospitals, with National Hospital and Asokoro Hospital reportedly filled with those affected by the accident.

The police, fire service, and other security agencies worked together to put out the fire and restore traffic in the area. The incident has once again raised concerns about road safety and the need for better traffic management.
