State of emergency: ‘Best decision’ – Amaewhule-led 27 lawmakers react as Tinubu suspends them, Gov Fubara

The Rivers State House of Assembly faction led by Martin Amaewhule has addressed their constituents after President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in the state. This decision suspends all elected officials, including the lawmakers, for six months.

In a statement signed by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, the lawmakers expressed support for the President’s decision, even though it was not what they had hoped for. They assured their constituents that they would comply with the directive.

The lawmakers blamed Governor Siminalayi Fubara for the crisis in Rivers State. According to them, the governor repeatedly ignored court rulings, failed to govern properly, and prevented the Assembly from performing its duties. They described his actions as tyrannical and unconstitutional.

Despite their suspension, the lawmakers assured residents that they would support the Sole Administrator appointed by President Tinubu to oversee the state. They urged the people of Rivers State to remain calm as the administrator takes charge.

The political crisis in Rivers State continues to unfold, with both sides blaming each other for the turmoil. The next few months will determine the state’s political future.
