Rwanda vs Nigeria: Ex-Super Eagles midfielder advises Chelle on formation for WCQ

Former Super Eagles midfielder, Mutiu Adepoju, has advised Nigeria’s new head coach, Eric Chelle, to stick with a familiar formation when they face Rwanda in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Friday.

Chelle will lead the Super Eagles for the first time in a crucial match at Amahoro Stadium. Nigeria, three-time African champions, are in desperate need of three points to boost their qualification hopes. Currently, they sit in 5th place in Group C.

Adepoju believes that Nigeria should continue playing their traditional style, which focuses on attacking from the wings. He warned Chelle against trying a new tactical approach for this important game.

“A new system might feel strange for both the players and fans,” Adepoju told Afrik-Foot. “Nigeria is used to playing from the wings, controlling possession, and using players who can create chances from the flanks. It might take time to adjust to a new style, but it depends on the players.”

The match between Rwanda and Nigeria is scheduled to kick off at 5:00 PM.
