The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum has strongly criticized President Bola Tinubu for not mentioning the role of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, in the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State.

In a statement by its chairman, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, the PDP governors expressed concern that Wike appears to be acting with impunity because he is following the president’s plan. They believe Tinubu’s silence on Wike’s involvement suggests he is backing him in the crisis.

President Tinubu recently announced the suspension of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and all elected members of the State House of Assembly for six months. However, he did not mention Wike, who has been openly involved in the crisis.

The PDP governors condemned this decision, calling it unfair and a direct attack on democracy. They accused Tinubu of taking sides and warned that his actions could worsen political tensions, harm Nigeria’s democracy, and create more security and economic problems.

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) also opposed Tinubu’s move. The association’s president, Afam Osigwe, stated that suspending elected officials without following constitutional procedures is illegal and unacceptable.

The PDP Governors’ Forum has pledged to challenge the decision in court, arguing that Tinubu’s actions violate Nigeria’s constitution. They urged the president to reconsider his decision before it causes further harm to the country.

The governors called on Tinubu to listen to reason, admit his mistake, and reverse his decision before it is too late. They emphasized that democracy must be protected and warned that allowing one individual, like Wike, to act without consequences could set a dangerous precedent.
