Popular Kannywood actor Sadiq Sani Sadiq has made it clear that his main goal in the film industry is to earn a living, not to teach morals or educate people.
Speaking in an interview with Freedom Radio, he explained that he has never claimed to spread awareness or influence people’s behavior through films.
“I never said I am educating people. I am not teaching morals. Morals are taught at home, and religious scholars provide guidance. I am here to earn money,” he said.
According to him, movies do not belong to any religion or culture—it all depends on how the filmmaker presents them. He also pointed out that if a child loses their morals after watching a film, the responsibility lies with the parents, not the actors.
“If your child watches my film and loses their morals, that’s not my fault—it’s yours. Even if they don’t watch Hausa films, they will watch Indian movies or Western music videos with romantic scenes.”
On the topic of women earning more than men in the Kannywood industry, Sadiq admitted that some women make more money than some men. However, he noted that wealth is private and just because someone owns luxury items does not mean they are the richest.
What do you think about his opinion? Should actors be responsible for teaching morals, or is it up to parents and religious leaders?
