President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially sworn in Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd) as the Sole Administrator of Rivers State. The ceremony took place on Wednesday at the State House in Abuja, with top government officials like the Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, and the Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, in attendance.
This decision comes after President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State on Tuesday night. The move was aimed at resolving the ongoing political crisis in the state. As part of the emergency measures, the President suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and all members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for an initial period of six months.
To maintain order and oversee state affairs, Tinubu appointed Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas as the sole administrator. Ibas previously served as Nigeria’s Chief of Naval Staff from 2015 to 2021 under former President Muhammadu Buhari. His role now is to ensure stability in Rivers State until the political situation improves.
