Some members of the House of Representatives got into a heated argument during a plenary session on Wednesday. The disagreement was about the state of emergency declared in Rivers State by President Bola Tinubu.
A video of the incident was shared online by AIT News, showing lawmakers engaged in a serious debate.
President Tinubu made the announcement in a nationwide broadcast on Tuesday night. However, according to the Constitution, the National Assembly must review the President’s declaration within 48 hours if they are in session. If they are on recess, they have up to 10 days to consider it.
If the National Assembly does not approve the state of emergency, they will vote on it. To either confirm or reject the declaration, a two-thirds majority of both the Senate and the House of Representatives is required.
The debate in the House shows that lawmakers have different opinions on the matter. It remains to be seen whether they will approve or reject the President’s decision.
