“Akpabio Should Be In Jail, Not Leading Senate.” – Tola Adeniyi

Veteran journalist and former Daily Times Editor-in-Chief, Tola Adeniyi, has strongly criticized Senate President Godswill Akpabio. He believes Akpabio should be in prison instead of leading Nigeria’s Senate.

Adeniyi shared his thoughts on the podcast State Affairs, hosted by journalist Edmund Obilo. He spoke about the allegations of corruption and sexual harassment involving Akpabio. According to him, Akpabio has been linked to multi-billion Naira fraud cases, yet nothing has been done about it.

He pointed out that Nigeria’s anti-corruption agency, the EFCC, had once accused Akpabio of stealing large amounts of money. However, instead of being held accountable, Akpabio now holds one of the highest political positions in the country.

Adeniyi expressed his frustration, saying it is shameful for someone with such accusations to be in a leadership position. He compared the Nigerian Senate to the respected Senate of ancient Rome, questioning how someone like Akpabio could lead it.

“He should be in prison. In any decent country, he would be behind bars, not holding power,” Adeniyi stated. He also criticized the political culture in Nigeria, where people praise leaders despite their questionable records.

When asked about Akpabio’s performance as Senate President, Adeniyi said he has achieved nothing significant. Instead, he described him as a clown who has done little to improve governance.

Adeniyi also spoke about the sexual harassment accusations made by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan against Akpabio. He criticized the way the issue was handled, saying that instead of properly investigating the claims, authorities silenced Natasha.

He believes Nigeria’s system is deeply flawed, allowing leaders to avoid accountability. “Nigeria is a joke,” he said. “In any normal country, an accused person wouldn’t be allowed to judge a case involving them.”
