Former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel does not agree with current Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca on Reece James’ best position.

Maresca recently said he believes James can play well as a midfielder and has even used him in that role against Copenhagen and Aston Villa this season.

However, Tuchel, who coached James at Chelsea, thinks the 25-year-old is better suited as a full-back or wing-back.

James has been called up to England’s squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Latvia. Tuchel, now managing the England national team, explained his stance on James’ position.

“I know Reece,” Tuchel said (via Metro UK). “Before calling him up, we ensured he was consistently available in training and for matches. When he doesn’t play, it’s the club’s decision to protect him, not because of an injury.

“I still believe he is best as a full-back or wing-back. We already have enough players in midfield who specialize in that role.”

With Tuchel and Maresca holding different views, James’ role at Chelsea and in the England squad will be interesting to watch.
