Joe Igbokwe, a leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has advised former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, and his son to remain silent following his defection from APC to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
In a Facebook post, Igbokwe acknowledged El-Rufai’s significant contributions to APC but urged him to stop making public statements about his exit. He believes the former governor and his son should avoid unnecessary controversies for now.
Igbokwe wrote, “My friend, HE El-Rufai, should stop making these statements. He is bigger than this. His sons should also stay silent, at least for now.”
He also praised El-Rufai’s role in APC’s victory in 2023, saying, “I am aware of the risky efforts Malam made for APC. He drilled the deepest well for the party. But this public drama is unnecessary.”
El-Rufai recently left APC for SDP after criticizing the ruling party for failing to uphold internal democracy. In an interview with the BBC, he also accused the APC-led government of abandoning its founding principles and distributing positions based on favoritism rather than merit.
