Many residents of Katsina State have been forced to abandon their homes due to a surge in bandit attacks. The most affected communities include Guga, Kakumi, and Kandarawa in Bakori Local Government Area (LGA). These attacks have increased during Ramadan, making life even more difficult for the people.
To tackle insecurity, the Katsina State government introduced the C-Watch initiative, a program designed to improve security. However, despite this effort, bandit attacks have continued.
A source, @DanKatsina50 which shared a picture of the residents fleeing their villages lamented that “insecurity worsens in Southern Katsina,” especially during this Ramadan.
Accompanying the picture @DanKatsina50, wrote: “Residents of Guga, Kakumi & Kandarawa of Bakori LGA, are fleeing as bandits intensify killings & kidnappings this Ramadan. Despite the C-Watch launch by the State gov’t, attacks also persist in Kankara, Malumfashi & Faskari LGAs.”

The violence is not limited to Bakori LGA. Neighboring areas such as Kankara, Malumfashi, and Faskari LGAs are also under constant threat. Kidnappings and killings remain a major problem, leaving residents in fear.
In response to the worsening security situation, the Katsina State government formed a commission of inquiry to investigate the reasons behind the attacks. The commission, led by Justice Abbas Abdullah Bawale, has been gathering information through public hearings.
As the crisis in Southern Katsina deepens, many residents are calling for more effective security measures to protect their lives and property. The success of the government’s response will determine whether peace and stability can return to the affected communities.
Restoring security in Katsina is crucial, especially as people struggle to observe Ramadan under these difficult conditions.
