Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai has denied betraying Atiku Abubakar, the former PDP presidential candidate. He also called on opposition figures like Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, and Rauf Aregbesola to join the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

El-Rufai, who recently left the All Progressives Congress (APC) for SDP, made these statements in an interview with BBC Hausa Service.

He expressed disappointment in the current government, saying he had supported President Bola Tinubu because of his achievements in Lagos State. However, he now believes Tinubu has failed as Nigeria’s leader.

El-Rufai also addressed claims that he betrayed Atiku. He explained that their relationship started at work, not in politics.

He stated that he always speaks the truth, even if it means opposing close associates. He recalled siding with former President Olusegun Obasanjo during his conflict with Atiku because he believed Obasanjo was right.

Now, El-Rufai hopes for a strong opposition and prays that leaders like Atiku, Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, and Rauf Aregbesola will join him in SDP to challenge the ruling party.
