Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has shared why he decided not to let Endrick take their last penalty in the Champions League match against Atletico Madrid. The game, played on Wednesday, ended in a 4-2 shootout win for Real Madrid in the round of sixteen second leg.
Ancelotti said the original plan was for Endrick to take the final penalty. However, when he saw the young Brazilian’s face, he changed his mind. Instead, he chose Antonio Rüdiger, who looked more confident.
Speaking to reporters, Ancelotti said, “We were unsure whether Endrick or Rüdiger should take the last penalty. We wanted Endrick, but when I saw his face, I decided Rüdiger was the better choice.”
Real Madrid won the shootout and will now face Arsenal in the Champions League quarter-finals.
Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid’s coach, Diego Simeone, was unhappy with a key VAR decision. During the shootout, Julian Alvarez’s penalty was ruled out because he kicked the ball twice. This decision played a big role in Atletico’s elimination from the tournament.
With Real Madrid moving forward in the Champions League, fans are looking forward to their exciting match against Arsenal in the next round.
