Ex footballer, Ronaldo withdraws from Brazilian Football Federation Presidency election

Brazilian football legend Ronaldo Nazário has announced that he will no longer run for the presidency of the Brazilian Football Federation (CBF).

The former striker, who scored 62 goals for Brazil and won two World Cups, had planned to challenge Ednaldo Rodrigues in the 2026 election. However, just three months after announcing his candidacy, Ronaldo has decided to step away from the race.

In a statement on social media, Ronaldo revealed that 23 out of the 27 federations within the CBF were not interested in his plans. His campaign aimed to give more voice and power to football clubs, but he did not receive enough support.

Despite withdrawing, Ronaldo emphasized the importance of dialogue, transparency, and unity for the future of Brazilian football.

Aside from his football career, Ronaldo has been involved in club ownership. He previously owned a majority stake in Spanish club Real Valladolid and sold his stake in Brazilian club Cruzeiro last year.

Ronaldo remains one of Brazil’s most celebrated footballers, winning the 1998 World Cup Player of the Tournament and the 2002 Golden Boot. He was instrumental in Brazil’s fifth World Cup victory in 2002.
