Former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock has questioned manager Arne Slot’s decisions after the team was knocked out of the UEFA Champions League by Paris Saint-Germain.
Liverpool entered the match at Anfield with a 1-0 lead but lost by the same score, pushing the tie to penalties. PSG won the shootout, ending Liverpool’s journey in the tournament.
Warnock, who played for Liverpool between 2000 and 2007, believes Slot’s substitutions were a big mistake. Speaking to BBC Radio 5, he said that Darwin Nunez had no impact, Curtis Jones underperformed, and Cody Gakpo did not look fully fit. He described these changes as “wasted substitutions.”
Liverpool now shifts its focus to the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle United on Sunday. They remain at the top of the Premier League table, 15 points ahead of Arsenal, who are in second place.
