Nollywood actor Uzor Arukwe has addressed the backlash he received for his role in Omoni Oboli’s latest movie, Love In Every Word.
Arukwe played the character Odogwu Obiora, a wealthy Igbo man who spends generously on his partner, Chioma (played by Bambam). While many, especially women, praised the film for showing how men should treat their partners, some male viewers felt the movie exaggerated men’s financial responsibilities in relationships.
One social media user on X (formerly Twitter) argued that Igbo men were not “simps” and claimed the movie only appealed to women who expect men to spend all their money on them.
In response, Arukwe defended his character, stating that taking care of a partner does not make a man weak but responsible. He explained that love includes providing for a partner when one has the means.
This is not the first time Arukwe has faced criticism. In 2023, he was accused of overdoing his Igbo accent in Funke Akindele’s blockbuster, A Tribe Called Judah.
Despite the criticism, Love In Every Word continues to spark conversations about relationships, responsibilities, and cultural expectations.
