Victor Osimhen has expressed his excitement about working with the new Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle. The Nigerian striker, who plays for Galatasaray, said he is eager to start training under the Malian coach as the team prepares for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The Super Eagles will gather this weekend for crucial matches against Rwanda and Zimbabwe. Many of the players will be meeting Chelle for the first time. Earlier this year, Chelle traveled to Europe, where he met players like Alex Iwobi, Wilfred Ndidi, and Moses Simon.
Osimhen revealed that he has already spoken with Chelle a few times and understands the coach’s vision for the team. “I’ve had conversations with him, and I know the goals he has set for himself and the players,” he told BBC Sports Africa.
Nigeria has struggled in the qualifiers so far and currently sits in fifth place in Group C without a win. Osimhen believes the players must give their best effort to secure a spot in the World Cup.
“It’s not just about the coach. Players also need to perform at their best, stay committed, and work together to achieve our goal,” Osimhen added.
The Super Eagles will be hoping to turn things around and improve their chances of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup.
