Ukraine agrees to ceasefire proposal with Russia as US restores military aid and intel sharing

Ukraine has agreed to a 30-day ceasefire proposed by the United States, hoping that Russia will also accept the deal. The decision came after high-level peace talks between US and Ukrainian officials in Saudi Arabia.

President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the ceasefire covers all battle zones, including air and sea. However, it will only take effect if Russia also agrees. “The US must convince Russia to accept it,” Zelensky said.

Following the meeting, the US announced it would lift restrictions on intelligence sharing and restart military aid to Ukraine. A Ukrainian official confirmed that security assistance has already resumed.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the next step depends on Russia. “The ball is in their court,” he said, urging Moscow to agree to peace. President Donald Trump welcomed the ceasefire agreement and said he would discuss it with Russian President Vladimir Putin soon.

The talks happened at a crucial moment, as Russian forces continue to advance in the Kursk region. Ukraine had launched an attack there last August, making it a key area in negotiations.

Ukraine’s ceasefire proposal includes stopping attacks from the air and sea, releasing Ukrainian prisoners, and returning children taken to Russia. Both sides also agreed to speed up a rare minerals deal to boost Ukraine’s economy and long-term security.

Trump praised the agreement, saying, “Hopefully, President Putin will agree too, and we can move forward.” He plans to speak with Putin later this week and hopes the ceasefire will begin soon.

“If Russia doesn’t agree, the fighting will continue, and people will keep dying,” Trump warned. However, he remains optimistic that both sides can reach a deal.

Now, all eyes are on Russia to see if it will accept the ceasefire and take a step toward ending the war.
