Tanker explosion kills one, injures three in Lagos

A tragic tanker explosion on the Otedola Bridge in Lagos has claimed one life and left three others with severe burns. The accident happened on Tuesday when a tanker carrying petrol caught fire, causing panic among residents and motorists.

Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), confirmed the casualties. He stated that three injured victims were taken to the burns unit at Gbagada General Hospital, while one person was found dead at the scene.

Emergency teams, including LASEMA’s Tiger Response Team, were deployed to control the fire. Authorities urged motorists to avoid the area and use alternative routes.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) reported that the fire spread to nearby structures, including a church, a residential house, and a mechanics’ park near CMD Road. Emergency responders were working to contain the situation and prevent further damage.

Officials have cordoned off the affected road, and motorists are advised to seek alternative routes. The authorities are working hard to put out the fire and ensure safety.
