I did not defend Natasha against Akpabio – Ex-Senate President Lawan

Former Senate President Ahmad Lawan has dismissed claims that he defended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan against Senate President Godswill Akpabio. He described the reports as false and misleading.

Lawan explained that he did not take sides in the debate that led to Natasha’s suspension. In a statement by his media adviser, Ezrel Tabiowo, he clarified that sexual harassment was never discussed in the Senate.

He said Natasha’s suspension followed Senate Rules and Orders, making it impossible for him to mention such allegations, as some reports suggested.

According to Lawan, his only concern during the plenary was a recommendation from the Senate Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct, and Public Petitions.

The recommendation suggested withdrawing Natasha’s security aides, but Lawan warned that doing so could set a bad precedent for lawmakers in the future.

He emphasized that his remarks were strictly about Senate procedures and were not in defense of Natasha or against Akpabio. His focus was on upholding due process and protecting the integrity of the National Assembly.

Lawan urged the media and the public to ignore false claims and assured Nigerians that he remains committed to the stability and dignity of the National Assembly.
