EPL: They need this guy, can’t get rid of him – Deeney hails Man United star

Watford legend Troy Deeney has praised Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes, saying the Portuguese midfielder has stepped up his game since Ruben Amorim became the club’s manager.

Fernandes scored a stunning free kick in Manchester United’s recent match against Arsenal, giving his team the lead. However, the game ended in a 1-1 draw after Declan Rice equalized for the Gunners in the 74th minute.

Since joining Manchester United from Sporting CP in 2020, Fernandes has been one of the team’s most consistent players. His performances have improved even more under Amorim’s leadership, making him a key figure in the squad.

While Manchester United is struggling in the Premier League and currently sits 14th in the table, Fernandes continues to deliver strong performances.

Deeney, picking his Team of the Week for BBC, acknowledged Fernandes’ improved attitude since Amorim took over. He believes United should build their team around the Portuguese midfielder.

“I have criticized Fernandes in the past, especially when the team was struggling under Erik ten Hag. But since the new manager arrived, he has shown a different level of leadership and character,” Deeney wrote. “If Manchester United wants to succeed, they need him. They cannot afford to lose him. His free kick was also incredible.”

Since Amorim became Manchester United’s manager, Fernandes has scored eight goals and provided six assists in 25 games. His influence has been crucial to the team’s improved performances.

As United looks to recover from their slow start to the season, Fernandes remains their standout performer, proving his importance to the club.
