Elon Musk claims someone in Ukraine is behind ‘massive’ cyberattack that took down his social media app X

Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and founder of SpaceX, has accused Ukraine of being responsible for a massive cyberattack that took down his social media platform, X.

The platform experienced serious issues on Monday, March 10, with users worldwide reporting glitches as early as 5:30 AM ET. Musk later confirmed that X was under attack and described it as a well-organized hacking attempt.

Well, we’re not sure exactly what happened,’ Musk told Fox Business Network on Monday afternoon

But there was a massive cyber attack to try to bring down the X system with IP addresses originating in the Ukraine area.’

Musk shared on X that the attack was so powerful that it must have been carried out by a well-organized group or even a foreign country.

However, he did not provide further details on who exactly was behind it. The outage affected the platform’s 600 million active monthly users before services were restored.

The cyberattack claim comes amid rising tensions between Ukraine and the U.S. Last month, former President Donald Trump called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky a “dictator” and accused him of prolonging the war with Russia.

Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance criticized Zelensky for not showing enough gratitude for U.S. military and financial aid.

Following their heated meeting at the White House, Zelensky was asked to leave, and a proposed minerals deal between the two countries remained unsigned.

The incident sparked debate, with Republicans supporting Trump’s stance and many in Ukraine reacting negatively.

Musk has been vocal about his views on the Ukraine-Russia war. In the past, he called for a ceasefire, warning that ongoing conflicts could lead to World War III. He has also accused Zelensky of pushing for a “never-ending war.”

Meanwhile, Zelensky traveled to Saudi Arabia on Monday to meet Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Talks between Ukrainian and U.S. officials are expected to take place there, with hopes of making progress toward ending the war.

Musk’s claims about Ukraine’s involvement in the cyberattack add another layer to the already tense relationship between Kyiv and Washington. Whether Ukraine is truly behind the attack remains unknown.
