Meghan Markle’s father, Thomas Markle Sr., has spoken out against her new Netflix show, With Love, Meghan. He criticized her decision to stop using her maiden name, calling it disappointing.
In a conversation with actress Mindy Kaling on her show, Meghan, 43, talked about how she now prefers to be called “Sussex” instead of “Meghan Markle.” She explained that she wants to share a family name with her children, saying, “I didn’t know how meaningful it would be to me, but it just means so much.”
However, her father, 80-year-old Thomas, was not happy with this change. He said that Meghan’s grandmother, Doris, who passed away in 2011, would have been “disappointed” to hear that Meghan no longer wants to use the Markle name. He added, “Meghan never had a problem with the Markle name until she met Prince Harry.”
Thomas also claimed that Meghan is not being authentic on camera. He said she plans everything she says and does, making her seem unnatural. “She’s trying so hard to be perfect that she tenses up every time the camera is on her,” he said.
He also commented on a cooking scene, saying that the best cooks are fun and make mistakes, but Meghan tries too hard to look perfect. “It’s sad because she’s trying so hard to stay in the limelight,” he added.
In her show, Meghan talked about growing up eating fast food and TV dinners. However, Thomas disagreed with this, saying that he often took her out to eat after school and that she was never a “latchkey kid” left home alone.
He also criticized her love for fancy meals, saying she is “out of touch” with regular people. “She puts edible flowers on everything,” he said. “No one has edible flowers handy, and kids don’t like them.”
Thomas also took issue with Meghan’s cooking methods. He was shocked by how she made spaghetti by cooking raw pasta with vegetables and water in one pan instead of boiling it separately. “Who makes spaghetti that way? You always boil the water first,” he said.
He also mentioned that Meghan’s mother, Doria, was a great cook, but Meghan never showed much interest in cooking as a child.
Thomas Markle’s latest comments show that his relationship with Meghan remains strained. While Meghan continues to share her version of her life through her Netflix show, her father insists that she is not being honest about her past. Whether their relationship can be repaired remains to be seen.
