Orode Uduaghan, the Delta State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Community Support Services, and Girl Child Development, has reacted to the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan by the Nigerian Senate.
Orode, who is the daughter of former Delta State Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan, shared her thoughts on Instagram on March 5. She hinted that she might soon speak about her own experiences as a woman in politics.
She wrote, “International Women’s Month. Lol,” seemingly referring to the timing of the senator’s suspension.
Orode also shared a video of Cletus Obun, a former member of the Cross River State House of Assembly. In the clip, Obun suggested that women in politics may, in the future, need mental stability tests to qualify for positions like governor, senator, or councilor.
She captioned the video, “#WomenInPolitics. One day I will set a ring light and microphone,” implying that she plans to share her perspective openly someday.
Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member, was suspended for six months. A Senate disciplinary committee found her guilty of breaking Senate rules after she accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of sexual harassment.
Orode Uduaghan’s reaction adds to the ongoing conversation about the challenges women face in Nigerian politics.
