The Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajia Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, has promised to help resolve the conflict between suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Speaking at a press meeting on Friday, the minister said the situation was unfortunate and should not have happened.
She emphasized the need to support female lawmakers, as the number of women in the Senate had dropped from nine in the last assembly to just four in the current one.
“We don’t want to lose any member of the Senate or House of Representatives. We want to increase the numbers,” she said.
The minister added that her ministry would engage all stakeholders to ensure a fair resolution. She also mentioned that she attended the International Women’s Day event at the National Assembly, where the Senate President expressed willingness to make peace.
She assured that efforts would be made to resolve the issue and encourage more women to participate in politics.
