Women can’t be sexually harassed when they become senators – Ita-Giwa (video)

Senator Florence Ita-Giwa has shared her opinion on sexual harassment claims in the Nigerian Senate. She believes that once a woman becomes a senator, she cannot be sexually harassed.

Her statement comes after Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of blocking her motions because she refused his alleged advances. Akpoti-Uduaghan made this claim during an interview on Arise TV.

Reacting to the allegation, Ita-Giwa, who also spoke on Arise TV, said it is a sign of weakness for a female senator to say she was sexually harassed. She insisted that women in the Senate should see themselves as equal to their male colleagues because winning an election is not easy.

When asked whether female lawmakers should remain silent if a colleague harasses them, Ita-Giwa stood by her opinion, saying women should not complain about such matters after being elected into the Senate.
