In a recent meeting at the White House, Russia praised former U.S. President Donald Trump for showing restraint during his tense confrontation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The encounter took place on Friday, and Russia’s foreign ministry spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, commented that Trump’s decision not to physically react to Zelenskyy’s comments was a notable act of restraint.
Zakharova criticized Zelenskyy for claiming that Ukraine was alone without support in 2022, calling it one of his biggest lies.
She also expressed surprise that Trump and former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, refrained from physically reacting to Zelenskyy, describing it as a “miracle of restraint.”
Dmitry Medvedev, former Russian President and current deputy head of Russia’s Security Council, also weighed in, calling Zelenskyy an “insolent pig” and suggesting that he had been put in his place during the meeting.
Kirill Dmitriev, the head of Russia’s Direct Investment Fund, referred to the heated exchange as “historic.”
During the meeting, Zelenskyy and Trump discussed the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, including the potential for a peace agreement.
Despite previous accusations from Zelenskyy that Trump was too friendly with Russia and President Vladimir Putin, Trump has remained critical of Zelenskyy, even calling him a “dictator.”
Zelenskyy, however, continues to insist that the war must not end on Russia’s terms.
