Inter Miami captain Lionel Messi has explained why he chose to join the Major League Soccer (MLS) club.
The Argentine star moved to Inter Miami as a free agent in 2023 after leaving Paris Saint-Germain. Since then, he has performed well and won two major trophies with the team.
Messi revealed that he always wanted to play in MLS and saw Inter Miami as an exciting opportunity. He said his goal was to help the club grow and make the league stronger as a global brand.
“I always had in mind to try a new chapter in MLS. I always wanted this move,” Messi said, as reported by Fabrizio Romano.
“Inter Miami attracted me because the club is growing and developing. I wanted to come here to help the team become bigger and also give MLS more power as a global brand.”
Messi will aim to lead Inter Miami to victory in their upcoming match against Houston Dynamo on Monday. The former Barcelona star recently scored in his team’s 3-1 win over Sporting Kansas City.
