Elon Musk is not backing down after facing criticism for a hand gesture he made during Donald Trump’s inauguration in January.
Instead of apologizing, he made Nazi-related jokes while talking about the incident on The Joe Rogan Experience.
During the podcast, Musk responded to critics who claimed his extended right-hand gesture looked like a Nazi salute. He said it was simply a way of acknowledging the crowd and that he “did not see” the backlash coming. Musk deliberately pronounced it to sound like “Nazi,” making Joe Rogan laugh.
He then made another joke, saying people will “Goebbel” anything up—a reference to Joseph Goebbels, the Nazi propaganda minister. This was the same joke he had posted on social media earlier.
After joking, Musk took on a more serious tone. He said he found the outrage ridiculous and insisted his gesture was meant in a “positive, loving way.”
Musk has been making headlines for his close work with President Trump, focusing on cutting government spending by shutting down what they consider unnecessary departments. Despite the backlash, Musk has made it clear he has no plans to apologize and is instead laughing off the criticism.
