The Bauchi State government has announced that all schools in the state will be closed for five weeks to allow students to observe the Ramadan fast.
According to the Ministry of Education, the break will last from March 1 to April 5, 2025. This decision was already included in the 2024-2025 academic calendar before now.
The Information Officer of the ministry, Mr. Jalaludeen Maina, confirmed that the closure applies to all public and private primary, junior secondary, and senior secondary schools, as well as higher institutions of learning in Bauchi State.
He explained that the government does not want students to fast while in school, so the break will give them time to focus on Ramadan. After the fasting period, students will return to school and continue their studies as usual.
This five-week holiday is part of the state’s effort to accommodate religious practices while ensuring students can resume learning without interruptions after Ramadan.
