Popular Nollywood actress and producer Funke Akindele has revealed that her success in the movie industry is a result of her dedication and God’s blessings.
Speaking at the 2025 Media Sales Conference in Lagos, she explained that no one made her famous—she worked hard to achieve her dreams.
Funke shared that her major breakthrough came in 2009 with her movie Jenifa. The film brought her into the spotlight and created opportunities for her. She recalled how a club owner invited her to an event, where she met music star D’banj.
D’banj advised her not to abandon the Jenifa brand but to build on it. He encouraged her to write another script and even supported her financially. This advice helped her continue the Jenifa series, which became even more successful.
Funke Akindele started her acting career in the TV show I Need to Know (1998–2002) before rising to fame with Jenifa in 2008.
Today, she holds the record for the highest-grossing producer in Nigerian cinema. Her journey proves that hard work, determination, and the right guidance can lead to great success.
