There was drama at the Lagos State House of Assembly today, February 27, as impeached Speaker Mudashiru Obasa arrived at the complex with a team of heavily armed police officers.

This happened shortly after the security details of his successor, Meranda Mojisola, were withdrawn. Obasa, who was removed from office last month, walked straight into the Speaker’s office, ignoring other lawmakers gathered in the Assembly’s garden discussing the ongoing crisis.

With Meranda’s security aides gone, concerns are growing about the safety of both the Speaker and the legislative building. The sudden power struggle has added to the instability within the Lagos Assembly.
