Ex-Denver Broncos LB Aaron Patrick settles lawsuit with NFL

Former Denver Broncos linebacker Aaron Patrick has reached a settlement with the NFL over a lawsuit he filed after suffering a serious knee injury during a 2022 game.

Patrick tore his ACL during overtime in a “Monday Night Football” game against the Los Angeles Chargers at SoFi Stadium.

His injury happened when he stepped on a mat covering cords for the league’s instant replay system. He claimed that while trying to avoid an NFL official on the sidelines, his foot got caught in the mat, causing his knee to twist badly.

Following the injury, Patrick sued the NFL, the Chargers, ESPN, and the company that provided the mat. He argued that the injury was avoidable and sought damages for lost bonuses and potential earnings.

This week, Patrick reached a conditional settlement with all parties involved, though the details of the agreement remain undisclosed. His attorney, William M. Berman, shared that Patrick is happy to put the case behind him and focus on his career.

The Broncos released Patrick in August 2023, and he has not been signed by another team since.
