Liverpool coach Arne Slot will miss two matches after receiving a red card at the end of the Merseyside Derby against Everton. The FA has given him a two-game touchline ban and fined him £70,000.
This means Slot will not be on the sidelines for Liverpool’s upcoming match against Newcastle on Wednesday and their home game against Southampton on March 8. The club was informed of the decision on Tuesday.
After the 2-2 draw with Everton, Slot shook hands with referee Michael Oliver but was seen saying something to him. The FA ruled that Slot behaved improperly and used insulting or abusive words towards the referee and an assistant. Slot accepted the charge.
Assistant coach Sipke Hulshoff also received a red card after the final whistle. He has been given a two-match touchline ban and fined £7,000 for improper behavior toward a match official.
Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones was also sent off after the match. He received a second yellow card following a clash with Everton’s Abdoulaye Doucoure.
Both clubs have also been fined for their players’ conduct after the match. Everton received a £65,000 fine, while Liverpool was fined £50,000. The FA said this was due to players not behaving in a proper manner after the game.
Liverpool will now have to manage without their head coach on the touchline for the next two Premier League matches.
