The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a woman, Blessing Oleru, for allegedly swapping an ATM card and stealing over N500,000 in Port Harcourt.
According to police spokesperson Grace Iringe-Koko, the incident happened on November 26, 2024, when a victim tried to withdraw money from an ATM. The machine had issues, and Oleru, pretending to help, swapped the victim’s card without them noticing.
The victim later received debit alerts totaling N523,600 and reported the case to the police at the Olu-Obasanjo Police Station. After an investigation, officers tracked and arrested Oleru on February 5, 2025.
During questioning, she admitted to the crime, and the police found a Moniepoint PoS machine with her.
The police have assured the public of their commitment to fighting financial crimes and are working to catch others involved in the fraud.
