The police in Akwa Ibom State have rescued a kidnapped man in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area after engaging his abductors in a gunfight, forcing them to flee.
The spokesperson for the state police command, DSP Timfon John, said the rescue operation was successful due to the police’s commitment to fighting crime and keeping residents safe.
According to the police, the incident took place on February 13, 2025. The victim, whose name was not revealed, was kidnapped along Okop Eto Road and taken to an unknown location. Acting on reliable information, the police quickly launched an operation. When they found the kidnappers, a gun battle broke out, making the criminals run away.
“Overwhelmed by superior firepower, the hoodlums fled with severe gunshot injuries, leaving the victim unharmed,” John said
The Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, praised the officers for their fast response. He assured residents that the police would continue to fight crime and make the state safer.
During the operation, the police recovered the victim’s stolen ash-colored Lexus RX 350 SUV. The victim has since been reunited with his family. The police are still working to arrest the fleeing kidnappers and recover their weapons.
