Troops rescue 25 kidnap victims, recover rustled cattle in Niger

The Nigerian Army, working alongside the police and local vigilantes, has successfully rescued 25 people who were kidnapped by armed bandits in Niger State.

The security team also recovered 22 stolen cows and nine sheep after a fierce battle with the criminals in Garungabas and Kundu villages, Rafi Local Government Area.

The rescue mission took place on February 21, 2025, after security forces received intelligence about bandit movements in the area.

Acting on this information, the Nigerian Army, police, and local vigilantes launched an offensive against the criminals.

A fierce gun battle followed, forcing the bandits to flee. This gave the security team a chance to rescue 25 hostages, including both men and women, who had been taken from nearby villages.

During the operation, the troops recovered 22 cows and nine sheep that had been stolen. However, some other livestock scattered into the bush during the gunfight.

This successful mission highlights the continuous efforts of Nigerian security forces in tackling banditry and improving safety in communities. Many residents are hopeful that more efforts like this will bring lasting peace to the region.
