A senior lawyer, Monday Ubani, SAN, has advised Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan to admit her mistake and apologize after her recent outburst in the Senate.
During a session, Akpoti-Uduaghan had a heated exchange with Senate President Godswill Akpabio, disrupting proceedings. Ubani criticized her actions, saying they were inappropriate and disrespected the Senate as an institution.
While he acknowledged that every senator, including Akpoti-Uduaghan, has the right to a fair hearing, he questioned whether her approach was the best way to handle the situation.
He explained that Senate rules are meant to maintain order, and breaking them could set a bad example for other institutions.
Ubani also raised concerns about the senator’s complaint regarding her new seating arrangement, which she claimed obstructed her visibility. He suggested that a more civil and proper procedure could have been followed to address the issue.
The incident has sparked discussions about maintaining discipline and order in legislative proceedings.
