The Nigerian government has successfully fixed the passport printer problem affecting consulates in the United States. This means that Nigerians in Atlanta and New York will now experience a faster and smoother passport application process.
A statement from Babatunde Alao, the Special Assistant on Media to the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, confirmed the resolution of the issue. Many Nigerians in the diaspora had earlier called for new printers to improve passport services in the affected consulates.
Following these concerns, the Minister of Interior directed the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) to deliver new passport printers to the consulates in New York and Atlanta. The machines were installed on February 18, 2025, bringing relief to applicants.
The installation of these new printers is part of a bigger effort by the Ministry of Interior to make passport services better. Other improvements include the Abuja Passport Personalisation Centre and the expansion of digital solutions to speed up the process.
The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, emphasized that this development aligns with the government’s commitment to innovation and better service delivery.
He assured Nigerians that these improvements reflect the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
With the new printers in place, Nigerians in Atlanta and New York can now apply for passports more easily, avoiding delays and long waiting times. This move shows the government’s dedication to making life easier for its citizens at home and abroad.
This latest effort demonstrates Nigeria’s commitment to efficient and reliable passport services, ensuring that Nigerians in the diaspora have a smooth experience when applying for travel documents.
