War: We’ll not accept Trump-Putin peace talk – Ukraine’s Zelenskyy

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has made it clear that Ukraine will not accept any peace agreement between the United States and Russia unless his country is involved.

His statement comes as US and Russian officials gather in Saudi Arabia for talks on ending the nearly three-year war.

Zelenskyy strongly opposed the negotiations, emphasizing that any decision made without Ukraine’s participation would not be recognized.

“Ukraine regards any negotiations on Ukraine without Ukraine as ones that have no result, and we cannot recognize any agreements about us without us,” he said.

The peace talks were set up after a recent call between former US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

It marks the first in-person meeting between US and Russian officials in years, following a breakdown in relations after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Both the US and Russia have sent senior officials to the talks. The US delegation, led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, includes Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff and White House national security adviser Mike Waltz.

On the Russian side, top foreign policy official Yuri Ushakov and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov are attending.

The Kremlin has stated that the talks will focus on organizing a potential meeting between Trump and Putin. However, Lavrov has already made it clear that Russia has no plans to give up any territory to Ukraine.

Despite the ongoing discussions, Ukraine has refused to participate, stating that it was not informed about the meeting. Zelenskyy’s firm stance highlights Ukraine’s demand for direct involvement in any peace negotiations concerning its future.

As the war continues, the world watches closely to see if these talks will lead to any breakthrough—or if they will only deepen the divide between the involved nations.
