The Ijaw nation has lost a great leader following the passing of Chief Edwin Clark. Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, described him as a father figure and an important voice for the Ijaw people.
In a statement from his Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Alabrah, Governor Diri said he received the sad news with deep sorrow. He described Clark as a strong patriot who spent his life serving Nigeria.
“Chief Clark was an icon, a man of great value, and a true nationalist,” Diri said. “He remained committed to the development of Nigeria until his last days.”
The governor also extended his condolences to Clark’s family and the people of Delta State. He prayed for strength and comfort for the Ijaw nation as they mourn this great loss.
To honor Clark’s memory, Diri announced that all flags in Bayelsa State would be flown at half-mast for three days. In addition, all government activities for the state’s fifth anniversary have been suspended for the same period.
Chief Edwin Clark’s contributions to the nation will always be remembered.
