The US military announced on Sunday that it carried out an airstrike in northwest Syria, killing a senior official of the al-Qaeda affiliate group Hurras al-Din.
According to a statement from the US Central Command (CENTCOM), the individual was an important figure in the group, handling finance and logistics. However, CENTCOM did not name the person targeted in the attack.
The airstrike aimed to stop terrorists from planning and carrying out attacks against US personnel, allies, and civilians. This action is part of ongoing efforts by the US to fight terrorism and protect its people and military in the region.
Earlier this year, on January 30, CENTCOM also killed another senior Hurras al-Din member, Muhammad Salah al-Zabir, in a similar airstrike.
Hurras al-Din was designated a terrorist organization by the US in 2019, and the US government has offered rewards for information about its members.
CENTCOM emphasized that it will continue to track and target terrorists to protect the US and its allies.
