Jos Katako Burnt Market: Humanitarian ministry supports victims

The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction has donated 900 bags of cement to help traders affected by the recent fire at Katako Market in Jos North, Plateau State.

The fire incident, which happened in November 2024, was the 39th in the market’s over 40-year history. The donation was presented at the market by the Minister, Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda, who was represented by Sunday Mark, a lawmaker in the Plateau State House of Assembly.

According to Nentawe, the government understands the struggles of the affected traders and wants to help them rebuild their shops.

He emphasized that the donation aims to assist them in restarting their businesses. He also urged the market leaders to ensure that the cement reaches the right people.

In response, the Chairman of Timber Market B, Yusuf Umar, expressed gratitude for the support. He noted that with the rising cost of cement, this donation would be a big help to the traders. He also appealed to the government and kind-hearted individuals to provide more assistance to help the victims recover fully.
